Diarrhoea
Diarrhoea
There are many causes of diarrhoea and it can depend on if the diarrhoea onset is sudden (acute) or long term (chronic). It also depends on the species, breed, and age. Puppies are more likely to get diarrhoea from a bacteria or virus, diet change or eating something they shouldn’t or even worms, where as an older dog might get diarrhoea from developing an allergy to food, developing inflammatory bowel disease or a bacteria or virus.
During COVID due to the high number of dogs in the parks we have seen an outbreak of giardia in dogs. This is often transmitted from communal dog bowels. It can a cause a variety of from mild diarrhoea to profuse watery diarrhoea making the dog very unwell. It can also be passed to humans so a definitive diagnosis by faecal testing is important.
